He is a member of the American Sociological Association (ASA), the Population Association of America (PAA), the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Practitioners Association (NASA), the Population Association of Nigeria (PAN), a professional member of the International Union for Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), and an International Project Management Professional (IPMP) certified project manager. He also received the 1st Prize Research Award on April 13th, 2019 for the PACFaH@SCALE Challenge in Investing in Human Capital Research in Response to Mr. Bill Gates’ call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to Prioritize Human Capital Development for Sustainable Development.
Dr. Turnwait Michael is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Johannesburg. He was a lecturer at Hallmark University. He volunteers to teach and conduct research at the University of Ibadan. He is a member of the University of Ibadan Research Foundation’s research team. During his PhD studies, he conducted fieldwork research and analysis funded by a variety of organizations, including the Nigeria Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC). He is a research consultant for the dRPC, a non-governmental organization, where he has worked on various consultative projects funded by the Ford Foundation, Malala Foundation, Metropolitan Group, Overseas Development Institute (ODI), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Institute of Development Studies (IDS), and Leiden University in the Netherlands.
Dr. Michael supports research and data analysis on Nigeria’s population, maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, gender-based violence, women’s economic empowerment, pro-poor policies, and migration projects. He provides monitoring and evaluation (M&E) support for girls’ education and ending child marriage in West Africa. He coordinated the global networks of researchers who were working on COVID-19, digitalization, and education in Nigeria. He conducts qualitative research training programs and designs and implements M&E instruments, approaches, and protocols. As part of a multidisciplinary team in academic and research organizations, Dr. Michael has contributed to the development and implementation of teamwork strategies, grant-making approaches, and system operational frameworks. Michael has a list of publications in reputable outlets, and a training on education in emergencies response plans. He is also proficient in statistical analysis using both qualitative and quantitative software packages.
